Flagships

Ornate brick shed at Stoney Road Allotments, Coventry - one of the successful applicants to the Flagship scheme. The Flagship Grant Scheme received 253 valid applications compared to 194 received in Round 1. These 253 applications requested a total of £2,783,597, around 14 times more than the budget available (£200,000).

All applications were assessed against the following criteria and a shortlist was drawn up:

  • Is there evidence that the project is needed?
  • Will the project deliver benefits beyond private benefits to plotholders?
  • Is there a clear workplan for the project?

The Esmee Fairbairn Foundation decided to award an additional £63,190 towards the Flagship applications (over the £200,000 originally allocated) because the standard of shortlisted applicants was so high. A total of 23 projects were selected for grant funding, with an average award made of £11,443
