Mentor Network

Mentor training day at Windmill Hill City Farm allotments in Bristol. The ARI Mentor Network was launched in 2004 to give help and support at a local level to anyone creating or regenerating allotments.

The service is FREE and Mentors have vast experience in all aspects of allotments regeneration.

The ARI Mentor Network consists of a team of volunteer experts. Mentors receive regular updates and training from ARI so that enquirers can be sure to receive up-to-date information and guidance. For example, Mentors have recently taken part in training on the provision of alternative energy on allotments and in giving support to people looking to carry out a media campaign for new allotment sites.

Our Mentors are people who have direct experience of managing and regenerating allotments at a local level. They can provide help with:

  • where to go for funding
  • how to set up an association
  • becoming self-managed
  • disability access
  • different ways to promote your plots
  • working with community groups
  • what to do about security concerns
  • setting up an allotment project.

Here is what a few people have had to say about the help they've received via our Mentor Network:

“John was very supportive, dealt with questions from allotments holders confidently.” (West Street/Balmoral)

“[Mentor] was very supportive and enthusiastic and had prepared in advance to bring us photos and relevant publications.” (ECI New Deal for Communities)

“Thank you so much for coming all this way to address the plotholders. The talk was very well received and very informative.“ (Pitstone Parish Council)

“Thank you for coming and speaking to us yesterday evening. We are all thinking seriously about what you told us all the pros and cons.”  (Sue Kay)

Alternatively, please feel free to contact the ARI staff team who will do their best to assist you.

N.B. ARI Mentors and ARI staff are not able to provide assistance with legal issues (e.g. site disposal threats), disputes between councils and plotholders, or internal disputes. Please contact NSALG if you require this type of assistance.
