Manchester Harvest: a homegrown festival!

View of 'the plot' in the highstreet with shoppers and passers-by. This weeklong green experience took place in St Anne's Square in Manchester City Centre in August 2005. A full-sized allotment was built in the square, containing fruit, flowers, vegetables and herbs. The plot was tended by volunteer allotmenteers - picking, weeding, pruning, thinning, and watering - who were also a source of information for visitors and curious passers by.

On each day of the event there was a cookery demonstration using fresh vegetables, as well as talks on various aspects of gardening, such as container growing, environmentally friendly gardening, bee keeping and attracting wildlife to your garden.
