Cam, Dursley and District LETS Community Allotment

Also known as 'Grow your own', this project has benefited from a grant from The Scarman Trust, as well as ARI. A group of 18 people have taken over a disused plot. Vegetables grown there are used for a nutrition and cookery course for young mums at a local community project. The project have also been given another area of the site to use, next door to their plot. They are developing a Forest School and have already planted fruit trees and wildflowers. They will run courses, along with three other childcare providers, for the allotment group and other playgroups and nurseries. Other activities they have enjoyed include a Herbal Spring walk and a herbal preparation course. In the autumn they are planning an Introduction to Permaculture course.

Jane Manning, one of the members of the group said:

"We have found that running different courses is a really good way of getting a wider range of people involved and recruiting new members."
