Moorlands Allotments, West Bromwich

View of Moorlands open day.In the 17th century, Moorlands was the kitchen garden of a manor house, becoming allotments during "Dig for Victory". Over the last few years a great deal has been achieved, with the help of grants, donated materials, support from local businesses, the community, Sandwell's Allotment Officer and of course the dedication and hard work of the plotholders, resulting in a fully let site with a waiting list.

Moorlands have a tarmac road, secure fencing, and disability access plots. There are also 12 "mini gardens" which are tended with great pride by local children, several of whom have had problems with conventional education, but have taken to allotment gardening with a zest.

Moorlands plotholders donate their prize-winning vegetables and plants to help with fundraising. The site's annual open day also raises money for charity and every Saturday morning retired members, family and neighbours pop in for a 'cuppa' and a chat.

The committee members are now offering practical help and advice to other self-administered allotment sites in the Borough hoping to emulate the success of Moorlands.
