Avian Flu - statement
The Federation of City Farm and Community Gardens (FCFCG) continues to work closely with its members to ensure they are fully prepared for any threat posed by avian flu. All city farms are registered with their appropriate national authorities - ultimately coming under the jurisdiction of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) - and will follow Government guidelines on avian flu.
FCFCG will help update its members on any changes to these precautions and any further changes to the situation regarding avian flu.
The Federation is also very aware of the public's concern regarding risks of infection. To complement Defra's current risk reduction, biosecurity and control measures, FCFCG is advising all members to keep their birds indoors and completely separate from farm visitors should the local situation worsen.
As with all matters of public health, FCFCG members will take all necessary action to protect their staff and visitors at all times, including the culling of flocks, should that be required.
