Blue Peter at school farm
Pupils at Edwalton School in Nottingham were treated to a visit from all of the Blue Peter presenters recently, as part of the Mission Nutrition appeal, which the Federation of City Farms and Community Gardens is helping to run. Andy, Joel and Helen were shown round Edwalton, the only primary school in the country with a working farm and a three-acre wood attached to the school grounds. The presenters were hoping to learn more about how children at the school grow food and encourage the children to hold a bring & buy sale to raise money for the appeal.
Mission Nutrition is all about getting children in the UK and overseas to grow and eat better food.
FCFCG, along with Save the Children and breakfast club charity ContinYou, want to get two million meals to hungry children, and help them to grow food for themselves. The appeal will raise funds mainly through one of Blue Peter's traditional and most successful fundraiser – the good old bring and buy sale.
It's also a great way to raise the profile of the community farming and gardening movement and the work our members do on a daily basis to promote the benefits of growing for everyone.

As part of the appeal, FCFCG has teamed up with Doves Farm Foods, to enable a thousand schools or other educational settings (including city farms and community gardens) to grow their own mini wheat field. This means that thousands of children can experience for themselves the whole growing process to have a greater understanding of where our food comes from.
