Mission Nutrition
FCFCG are helping children grow and eat better food through Blue Peter’s Mission Nutrition appeal. We have joined up with two other charities, Save the Children and ContinYou, to run the appeal.
Mission Nutrition wants to help children around the world to eat well and grow their own food. It's also a great way to raise the profile of the community farming and gardening movement and the work our members do on a daily basis to promote the benefits of growing for everyone.
So why not organise a bring and buy sale. A fundraising pack is available on the appeal website. Alternatively download a flyer below and let other people know about the appeal.
Are you ready to accept your mission?
If you want to get involved in the appeal, then all the information you need to start your mission is on the Mission Nutrition
appeal website at: www.missionnutrition.org.uk
Here you can get details about some of the children Mission Nutrition will be helping, and the challenges they face to getting enough good food. There's also a totaliser to see how much has been raised, a map of bring and buy sales and plenty of fun activities.
This site also has the following downloadable materials:
- A poster
- A fundraising guide, with stickers and a poster to help set up your own bring and buy
- Educational resources – nine activities to use with groups to get them learning about the Mission.
Growing Grains
FCFCG has updated its educational Grains Pack to include information on cereal growing in the UK and details on how to grow your very own mini wheat field. This interesting educational pack also has plenty of other information and activities for children to try. You can get a free copy by clicking on the link below:
We also teamed up with Doves Farms Foods to offer schools, FCFCG members and other educational settings the chance to get free, traditional varieties of wheat seeds to grow on their plot. We have given a thousand packs of seeds away to help children grow their own mini-wheat field. The offer for the free seeds is now closed.
How can FCFCG members get involved?
FCFCG members can benefit from holding bring and buy sales to help the appeal:
- It can attract publicity to your site/group
- It would attract local people who might not normally visit (and they might come back again volunteers etc)
- It would attract younger people to visit your project
- It is relatively quick and easy to organise (for example you could organise one with unwanted Christmas presents.
- FCFCG members stand to benefit in the long run as they will be eligible for grants and funds created with money raised by the whole Mission Nutrition Appeal.
Register your sale via www.missionnutrition.org.uk. Let FCFCG know the details of your sale and we will put it on the events section of this website.
Even if you can’t run a Bring and Buy sale, please help by putting up some Mission Nutrition fliers on noticeboards on your site and local area. Download the Mission Nutrition Flyer or email us and we will send you some printed copies through the post.
