City Harvest Festival
The City Harvest Festival is a major feature on the calendar for London's community gardens
and city farms and allows them to showcase their educational and neighbourhood
achievements.
Held in the beautiful grounds of Capel Manor College in Enfield, there are plenty of attractions for visitors, including an animal show, where children and young farmers show the wide range of animals kept at London's city farms in a series of competitions. There is also a marquee for vegetables and flowers grown in the city's community gardens and city farms - plus a variety of craft demonstrations.

City Harvest Festival 2008
The weather smiled on the 10th anniversary London
City Harvest Festival, with September sunshine warming the show site at Capel
Manor near Enfield.
Here’s a report by FCFCG London development worker Catherine
Miller:
Rob Gayler did a great job organising the setting up of the show and more than 100 campers stayed on Friday night. Jo and Tom Gallagher cooked up a storm for the campers. Saturday dawned cold but sunny and soon we had warm sunshine for the show. Chris Pounds was our compere and did a fantastic job throughout the day. Our judges couldn't get over the quality of the animals shown, and it was noticeable that more city farms seem to be keeping rare breeds which are important genetic resources for the future.
Thanks to Bronwen Wilson and Tom Davis who organised the animal show. Wellgate were winners again this year!
The horticulture marquee was full of exhibits from community projects across London including unusual veg and mini gardens. A special category of 10 of anything in this 10th anniversary year was won by Hammersmith Community Gardens with 10 melons.
Freightliners Farm did a great job organising the horticulture marquee and Liz McAllister organised the dog show too. Surrey Docks and Spitalfields were joint overall horticulture show winners.
Guests this year included the deputy mayor of Redbridge and Andrew Rosindell MP, shadow minister for animal welfare.
Throughout the day kids activities were co ordinated by Simone Uncle. Children from London's farms had also designed and baked a cake to mark the show's 10th anniversary and this was ceremoniously cut by Oliver Rowe, BBC's Urban Chef.
The show ended with a tug of war won by Kentish Town City Farm. Special thanks to Roger Gayler for his firm but fair decision making!
Thanks also to Liz and Steve for all their work for the show."
