FCFCG pair win votes cash
Two of our member groups have won huge cash windfalls after competing
to win a slice Big Lottery Fund money as part of the People’s Millions 2008
contest. Knutton Village Farm in Staffordshire and London’s Surrey Docks farm went head-to-head with
other community projects to win public votes on evening news programmes in
their respective ITV regions. Both groups were extremely pleased with their awards and
thanked all those who voted for them.
Knutton Village Farm will now get £50,000 towards the creation of a village farm, providing a hands-on experience to show visitors where food comes from and how it is produced. A live webcam will track the project’s progress, and renewable power would be generated through physical activities such as cycle machines, which will be used to run audiovisual displays.
Meanwhile Surrey Docks received nearly £58,000 to deliver a mobile outreach farm bringing animals and farming activities to local schools and festivals in the London area. The project will hold events featuring farm skill demonstrations and address issues relating to healthy eating.
In total 90 community groups across the 18 ITV regions, including Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, received grants totalling nearly £5 million.
