Mudchute farm hosts minister

Defra Minister Hilary Benn at Mudchute FCFCG member Mudchute Park and Farm in East London played host to Defra State Secretary Hilary Benn recently, as part of the Year of Food and Farming. Six of Mudchute’s Young Farmers had lunch in the award winning restaurant, Mudchute Kitchen with the Minister and then accompanied him on a farm tour. The visit concluded with a question and answer session with the Young Farmers.

Hilary Benn said: “One of the aims of the Year of Food and Farming is reconnecting children and young people, including those in urban areas, with their local environment. I am pleased to see how Mudchute City farm is inspiring children with first-hand experience of growing, cooking and seeing how their food is produced.”

Mudchute Park and Farm is a community charity and a member of the National Federation of City Farms and Gardens.

One of Europe’s largest city farms, with over 100,000 visitors a year, the Farm is a vital community resource and provides a much needed green space in the heart of East London.
