Funding boost for Scotland

FCFCG worker leads site tour Community Gardeners across Scotland are set to benefit from a spring lottery windfall after the Big Lottery Fund announced a grant of nearly half a million pounds to the Growing Communities in Scotland partnership. Included in the partnership is the Federation of City Farms and Community Gardens (FCFCG), the Scottish Therapeutic Gardening Network (Trellis) and the Allotments Regeneration Initiative (ARI). The lottery funding will help the partners continue their work with the blossoming Scottish community garden and allotment network. At least 350 community, therapeutic and allotment gardens across Scotland will benefit from improved and comprehensive support services.

Manifesto to inspire local growth

Basil working on his allotment Communities which work together to grow, eat and distribute their own food feel happier, healthier and take more positive steps to improve the environment – both local and global. That’s the simple but powerful conclusion contained in a new manifesto, which calls for greater effort from policy makers, funders and support organisations to help those local community groups who create tangible benefits for their neighbourhoods. Called ‘From the ground up’, the manifesto is the culmination of the three-year SPAN partnership programme (Sustainable Production in Active Neighbourhoods) and aims to inspire wider recognition of the positive impact of community food growing.

Local Food on the menu

ripe tomatoes Local Food, a new and exciting grants programme funded by the Big Lottery Fund, has officially opened for applications. The £50 million programme - aimed at making locally grown food accessible and affordable to local communities - has been developed by a consortium of organisations, including FCFCG. Local Food is the first Award Partner scheme funded by the Big Lottery Fund's Changing Spaces programme to open its doors for applications, and will look to distribute grants to a variety of food-related community projects across England.

Community Spaces programme opens

Hidden Gardens ite, Glasgow Community Spaces, a £50 million lottery-funded grants scheme providing funding and support to community groups in England, has opened for business. The scheme will help groups create or improve green and open spaces to improve the quality of local life. Funding is available for a variety of local projects to improve green and open space, including play areas, community gardens, parks, wildlife areas, ponds, courts and village greens, kick-about areas and pathways.
