You can also find contact details for the regional development staff dedicated to advising and supporting community managed farms and gardens.

FCFCG has secured a Big Lottery Wales grant to run the Growing Together in Wales programme, which aims to promote, develop and support community farming and gardening in Wales. We have appointed Katie Jones to be our development worker for Wales and have set up an office based in Cardiff. As the programme progresses we will be building up a team of sessional fieldworkers, creating information resources specifically for Wales and creating a map of city farms and community gardens across Wales.

 

News & Events 

Horticulture Open Evening: FCFCG in conjunction with the Welsh College of Horticulture is staging a Horticultural Open Evening July 4 (3pm-8.30pm) at Swansea Community Farm, Fforestfach.

Whether you are a complete beginner and interested in ‘growing your own’, a community growing project or interested in growing on a commercial scale, there is training available that can help you to develop your skills. The Welsh College of Horticulture offers a wide range of courses in the production of horticulture including ‘Start Gardening’ at Level 1 and ‘Organic Horticulture’ at Level 4/5.

Robert Mackey, Lecturer in Horticulture at the College to be at Swansea Community Farm in Fforestfach on the afternoon and evening of Friday July 4th to discuss training and education to support food growing within communities in Wales.

Sustainable Funding Advice: Sustainable Funding Cymru, a new resource that provides practical information to voluntary and community organisations in Wales on how to develop a sustainable funding approach.

Training

Access To Farms: Are you a farmer who is interested in hosting educational visits for schools and the public? CEVAS (Countryside Educational Visits Accreditation Scheme) is a training scheme which includes health and safety, links to the school curriculum and how to communicate with young people, leading to a recognized qualification.

More than 30 farmers in attended courses in Wales last winter. If you would you like to find out what visits might involve without committing at this stage then this course is for you – and it’s FREE!
