More details:

The Care Farming for Learning Disabilities and ASD course explores how care farming can be provided to meet the needs of this user  group.  The course will investigate how to assess local demand for this provision and how to establish relationships with potential referrers. The specific benefits of care farming for this service user group will be discussed and consideration will be given to how to create activity sessions, how these fit into a typical day, and how to plan over a longer period.  Participants will investigate the importance of assessment, determining outcomes and possible progression routes and thought will be given to developing a care farm site to make it accessible and compatible for activities and users.

On this course you will:

  • Learn about the challenges faced by those with Learning Disabilities and Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and how care farming can help meet their needs.
  • Look at planning your day, activity planning and facilitation for this user group
  • Learn how to use the farm / site and adapt it for Learning Disabled and Autistic users
  • Identify skills necessary for successful engagement with people with Learning Disabilities and ASDs.
  • Understand induction and assessment processes, including outcome measurement.
  • Explore the current status of Learning Disabilities and Autism provision in the UK and how to carry out a Needs Analysis for your area.
