This course is an introduction to working with young people with anxiety and/or depression, on a care farm or other green care site and is available as a one day face to face course or an online blended learning version which takes place over two weeks.
This course explores how care farming can be provided to help meet the needs of young people with anxiety, depression and wider mental health support needs. The course will investigate how to assess local demand for this provision and how to establish relationships with potential referrers. Participants will learn the specific benefits of care farming for this group and how to create activity sessions that will help to bring these about.The course will investigate how these sessions will fit into a typical day, and how to plan over a longer period, working towards goals agreed with the young person. Consideration will also be given to assessment, attendance, outcomes and progression. The specific needs for young people regarding engagement, group dynamics and building resilience will be discussed. Thought will be given to developing a care farm site to make it accessible and compatible for activities and users. This course is relevant for care farmers, prospective care farmers and green care providers who would like to offer regular, structured services to young people with anxiety and/or depression as part of a health or social care or education programme.
One day face to face option:
The one day face to face course is held on a Code of Practice care farm or green care site. The day starts at 9.30 am and finishes at 4.00 - 4.30pm with lunch included. Four Nurturing yourng people with anxiety and depression face to face courses will be held per year, with the geographical location rotating around the country.

**NEW** Blended learning option:
The blended learning option provides the flexibility to enable participants to work through engaging learning material in their own time combined with live events where they can interact with each other, course tutors and care farming practitioners. Courses represent 7-10 hours learning and 'go live' on the Friday of week one, and finish two weeks later on the Friday of week 2. The schedule can be found here
The cost of the course is usually £110 but through the Growing Care Farming project we can offer the course at a subsidised rate of £50
