Rice Lane City Farm was set up in 1979 by local residents in Walton, Liverpool, who leased Walton burial ground and its grade II listed buildings from St Nicholas Church. Cows and sheep now graze on graves to keep them tidy and RLCF has taken on several acres of adjoining woodland. The site now supports rare livestock breeds, wildlife conservation, indigenous planting, coppicing, horticulture, organic gardening, cafe, dairy, classroom - and a football pitch. Several projects are running currently to promote food growing and healthy lifestyle; development work is underway to increase the participation of schools in relevant curriculum areas and a variety of seasonal vegetables and herbs are produced.
