Members of Newcastle City Council’s Home Composting Project, friends, colleagues and interested customers set up the Good Road Community Garden Project in 1997 to investigate traditional plant usage and the historic growing methods employed by various Native American cultures. The project aims to source out and grow unusual and traditional heritage varieties of beans, squash, sweetcorn and native american plants. The host site is used to grow and collect seeds and the resulting harvested seeds are shared out to seed guardians who will themselves grow and collect the seeds to be passed on.
