Reading International Solidarity Centre (RISC) is a Development Education Centre close to the heart of Reading's town centre. We work with schools and community groups to raise the profile of global issues and promote action for sustainability, human rights and social justice.

The centre is also home to a forest roof garden based on permaculture and forest garden principles and designed to raise awareness of green issues including sustainable development and economic and historical importance of plants. Producing fruit, veg and medicinal plants the garden also incorporates: water harvesting, solar panels and wind turbine for drip irrigation system. The hard landscaping uses recycled, renewable materials. The project is open to volunteer involvement, especially in harvesting and utilising some of the wide variety of plant materials produced.
