Bedford Fields Community Forest Garden is an open-access forest garden in inner city Leeds that demonstrates how forest gardening can be a viable alternative to conventional agriculture and teaches people how to go about setting up, maintaining and developing forest gardens and other sustainable food-growing systems in their locality.
We run weekly workday sessions on Saturdays, from 11am -4pm generally, where we provide food, tools, and smiles whilst collectively working the garden and learning about forest gardening and sustainable food-growing.
We run a weekly Friday morning ‘Health and Well-being’ session in collaboration with a local environmental organisation where we work the garden whilst emphasising the chill out factor – enjoyign each other and the beauty and functionality of the garden. We run a number of workshops, tours and other events at the garden and host groups who run events that chime with our aims. This includies an annual Apple Day, weekly summer meditation sessions! We try to support groups that otherwise could not afford a place to meet who meet our aims by providing our ‘Bedfords Shed – ‘a classroom cum shelter, at a ‘Pay as you feel’ rate.
