Get Growing! is a new project set up by Sanday Development Trust and funded by the People’s Health Trust (which receives it’s funding from the Health Lottery) to establish and run a Community Growing project on Sanday. The Get Growing! garden will be situated in front of Heilsa Fjold Community Centre on the rough land owned by OIC. We are planning to set up a community growers volunteer group once the polytunnel and polycrub have been erected. The group will meet twice weekly – once at the weekend and once mid-week – with the intention of growing fruit and vegetables.  Members of the group can attend as often or as little as suits them and it’s planned to make transport available for those that need it. Those who work the garden will get first pick of the day’s harvest, with surplus fruit and veg available for sale via the island’s shops.
Get Growing! is open to everyone to attend whether you have experience of growing & gardening or a complete beginner. We will be organising workshops, supervised gardening sessions and working closely with Skills 4 Sanday to provide learning opportunities and will ensure that the garden is accessible for all.
