Our group, made up entirely of local volunteers focuses on reaching out to our very diverse community and offers the opportunity to engage with activities within the park which promote well being by bringing groups of people of all ages together with shared interests and a desire to contribute in any way they can. We run a very busy calendar of events and activities which aim to reflect the diversity of park life. These include general maintenance tasks, litter and river clean ups, management of overgrown paths and graffiti removal. As a park with varied wildlife population our moth trapping, dawn chorus and tree walks are very popular. We also recruit local musicians for small concerts and hold an annual Santa's Grotto. Our main focus this year is on a project to renovate a WorldWarII Nissen hut to create a community hub for the local area. We are establishing a community garden in the grounds with the aim of attracting small groups in to help us develop the space as a valuable resource for the future. We have held several horticural based workshops and are determined to develop a programme of education that combines practical skills with some useful 'classroom' sessions that develop knowledge of the subject and inform on impact of climate change, use of pesticides and the need for society to strive toward self sufficiency.
