CEVAS (Countryside Educational Visits Accreditation Scheme) is a nationally recognised accreditation. It offers training for individuals who are working – or plan to work – with groups of school children, young people or clients with additional needs.
If you are thinking of setting up a care farm, have only recently started offering care farming services or have new members of staff that you'd like to bring up to speed, then a CEVAS training course is a great place for you to start. CEVAS is suitable for a wide range of people, including care farmers, care farm staff, volunteers, advisors and carers.
There are two available routes: a Therapeutic Route for care farming (structured, regular service as part of an individual's health or social care or specialist educational programme) that covers a wide range of visitors with largely therapeutic aims and outcomes and an Educational Route that predominantly covers school visits with educational aims and outcomes.
The training involves two days' attendance at a farm or countryside location or offers an online alternative delivered through six sessions. You will learn about the practicalities involved in hosting visits, how food and farming can be incorporated into the school curriculum, and how to communicate effectively with both teachers and pupils. With the help of your tutor you will gather useful documents into a portfolio which is then submitted for accreditation.
CEVAS accreditation is an Open College Network level 2 award delivered by the Access To Farms (ATF) partnership. It is not only useful for personal development but is also recognised by a number of insurers, schools and local authorities as a mark of good practice.
Social Farms & Gardens are a member of the Access to Farms partnership which delivers CEVAS training.
This course costs £250 + VAT. For more information or additional training dates and course locations, please visit the CEVAS website.
