About the organisation:
Bhayani Recruitment is working with a long-standing community development charity in Sheffield that celebrated its 40th birthday in 2021. The charity identifies, confronts and addresses the inter-connected challenges of poverty, inequality, prejudice and lack of opportunities in both its own inner-urban neighbourhood and across Sheffield, embracing the principles of urban sustainability across food, energy and wildlife, which it engages with through a mini-farm, community gardens and related resources. 

Role Overview: 
The incoming CEO will be committed to sustainability and will have the opportunity to curate and grow a much-loved and complex social enterprise in Sheffield, building a lasting and green legacy for the city. You will lead both on the day-to-day operations of the charity and at the strategic level, alongside the board of trustees and Senior Management Team. You will ensure continued success and shape the organisation to meet tomorrow’s challenges, bringing climate action to the forefront of its community projects. You will shape the culture, values, policies and practices of this popular community charity to achieve its mission and aims.

You will be responsible for ensuring the provision of a high-quality service for all operations, acting as liaison between management and the board of trustees, ensuring they are fully informed of all important factors. You will also lead on identifying and taking advantage of any new funding and business streams.

What will the day-to-day look like?
•    You will provide a 3-5 year clear vision and sustainable strategy for the charity that is shared by the board of trustees, staff, volunteers and other stakeholders.
•    Complete responsibility for financial operations including setting robust and evidenced budgets and cash-flow forecasts.
•    Along with the senior management team, take overall responsibility for the team of 45 staff, ensuring their wellbeing is prioritised.
•    You will be the principal spokesperson and outward facing executive of the charity, representing the organisation at local, regional, national and international meetings as appropriate.
•    Provide timely reports to the board on legal compliance (including health and safety and equality and diversity) and the financial position of the charity. 
•    Lead on marketing and promoting the charity as an effective, active and efficient organisation.
•    Coaching the senior management team with effective delivery and development of their projects. 
•    Attend and report to the board of trustees and the SMT as appropriate.
•    Keep appropriate and accurate personnel, financial and other monitoring records.
•    Develop income generation opportunities and lead the fund-raising strategy.
•    Be responsible for the production and adoption of all policies and procedures that ensure compliance with the requirements of legislation and funding/contracting organisations.
Wider responsibility:
•    Overseeing the services provided by the charity to ensure that it meets the needs of the communities served.
•    Directing the organisation in line with the goals and visions agreed with the trustees, ensuring that the values as set out in the strategy are being upheld day to day. 
•    Leading the development of the organisation’s short and long-term strategies and policies.
•    Developing and maintaining effective working relationships with statutory, third sector, private sector and quasi-governmental organisations that enable the charity to develop and enhance project delivery for service users, enhance income generation and further its reputation. 
Skills & knowledge requirements:
•    The conceptual skills to shape the organisation to meet tomorrow’s societal challenges.
•    Climate action in a community context.
•    Knowledge of third sector trends, over-arching political and economic influences, policy generation and structural form.
•    Working knowledge at least one of the following working arms: learning difficulties and disabilities, food-growing, animal care, community health, visitor attraction.
•    Strong project and change management skills.
•    Emotionally intelligent and patient.
•    Pragmatism to successfully put visions into practice.
•    Willingness to be hands on in an urban farm context.
•    Dynamism, energy, enthusiasm, resilience.
•    Creativity, innovation, entrepreneurial flair.
•    Highly organised with an ability to manage competing demands.
Experience required:
•    At least 10 years verifiable work experience and a minimum of 5 years in a position with high responsibility.
•    Bid-writing and wider fundraising.
•    Financial and budget management.
•    Management of a team of 10+.
•    Verifiable work experience of at least three years of working within the third sector, social enterprises and/or charities.
•    Experience of working collaboratively with a board of trustees or similar seniority.
•    Able to evidence successful project outcomes.
•    Evidence of growth of revenue generation through commercial activities.
