Location:
Communigrow Field, Ditton, Aylesford, Kent, ME20 6PE
Salary: Unremunerated but reasonable travel expenses paid
Commitment: Attending bi-monthly trustee meetings and a commitment of one day per month

The appointment will be subject to due diligence checks including 2 professional references and the completion of an enhanced DBS check.

Overview

Communigrow provides a range of educational opportunities and outdoor activities for adults and young people. We provide inspiration that encourages and promotes learning, personal development and achievement for those facing a variety of challenges and vulnerabilities. We are a horticultural project and see our purpose as engaging the whole community in responding to social disadvantage.

We are poised for a period of significant expansion and now seek a new trustee to add impetus and additional skills to our Board. We are keen to appoint a trustee who would be a specialist resource in business development, enterprise and income generation who can assist Communigrow to become more secure, resilient and sustainable.

Applicants should have business or commercial experience at senior management level and of income generation activities, as well as preferably, governance or trusteeship. 

Purpose of role

Together with other Board members and under the guidance of the Chair, to provide strategic leadership and strong governance of the charity and actively contribute to its business development and sustainability in accordance with our stated charitable objectives. 

Specific responsibilities 

The Trustee will contribute to all aspects of the charity’s strategic objectives, including setting policy, strategic direction and defining goals, with a primary focus on leading our business development 
•    Developing the business strategy for the expansion of the charity’s services and reach.
•    Developing the financial and income generation strategies.  

Working with the other trustees in:
•    Monitoring the financial position of Communigrow and ensuring that it operates within its means and objects, and that there are clear lines of accountability for day-to-day financial management.
•    Setting targets and evaluating performance and ensuring that decisions taken at board level are fed through the operational plans.

Person specification 
You will have successful business experience and be able to develop a strong business strategy to promote and enhance the services of Communigrow.

•    Successful track record in business or commerce at senior management level.
•    Proven success of management and business development in the voluntary or private sector.
•    Experience and understanding of social enterprise.
•    Knowledge and experience of financial planning and budgeting. 
•    Commitment to the aims, principles and policies of Communigrow.
•    Ability to think creatively and strategically and to exercise good, independent judgement.
•    Good communication and influencing skills.
•    Ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
•    An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship. 
•    Strong commitment to diversity, inclusion and opportunities for all.
