FCFCG has launched a new programme to strengthen and expand the vibrant community growing sector in Wales. Tyfu Fyny (which translates as ‘Growing Up’) will build on the success of FCFCG's previous Tyfu Pobl programme.
Tyfu Fyny will deliver the next phase of development support to community growing groups by increasing skills and sharing knowledge, strengthening the network and providing advice and support to community growing groups to help them achieve their goals. The new project is funded by Welsh Government Rural Communities – Rural Development Programme 2014-2020, which is funded by the Welsh Government and the European Union.
The focus will be on five key areas of work:
- Growing Enterprise
- Growing Communities
- Community Supported Agriculture
- Care Farming
- Climate Change and Sustainability Education
The project will provide mentoring and training opportunities, regional and national networking events as well as research, publicity and resource materials for community growing groups. Tyfu Fyny also plans to raise the profile of community growing in Wales through an annual Community Garden Open Day, exhibits at major shows and festivals and a targeted social media campaign.
New and existing community growing groups will be able to get expert advice and help to explore a range of new activities such as growing to sell, increasing food production, offering training or education activities, increasing or developing new facilities or offering therapeutic and wellbeing-related farming or gardening activities. As the project develops, a range of information will be made available to groups to inspire and enable an increase in the services that they provide to their communities.
The project will be delivered by a team of six people based across Wales, including dedicated Development Workers for North and South Wales, a Community Supported Agriculture Development Worker and a Business and Marketing Advisor. The project will be coordinated by FCFCG Wales Manager Emma Williams and supported by the Wales Administrator. Tyfu Fyny will be delivered alongside FCFCG’s other projects in Wales - the Community Land Advisory Service in Wales (CLAS Cymru) and the Growing Together initiative.
