London's only inner-city Millennium Green opened in May 2001. This is a community owned and managed green haven amongst high density urban greyness. To symbolise the fact that the area was once part of the ancient Lambeth Marsh, there is a water feature and a wild flower meadow. A focus for community involvement in the environment, gardening with the homeless, volunteering and youth projects. The site is managed by Bankside Open Spaces Trust, an umbrella group for a number of park and open space groups in NW Southwark.
