Penistone and District Community Partnership has received a Big Lottery Fund grant to develop a 'Grow Penistone' project which aims to provide educational facilities, develop links with other groups in the area to encourage production of local food and environmental knowledge etc. The group have taken ownership of the Springvale site, the former home of Springvale rainbow nursery and of the nature area on the other side of the river, developed a physic garden, with a range of medicinal plants and provided space for a small group of community gardeners. Accessibility has also been improved and picnic tables installed in the nature area.
