HBeeT Wildlife Group
Hurstbourne Tarrant Parish Council agreed in 2018 to support wildlife and environmental initiatives within the village (around 800 inhabitants), and also to improve sustainability/recycling. A working group - HBeeT - was set up and we have already made use of our small green space (separate from the recreation ground) to begin a wilding project. We have kept areas for wild flowers & plants, planted new trees and hedging, installed an information noticeboard, put up bird & bee boxes ... and we have already had, this summer, one of the largest colonies of solitary bees which our local enthusiasts and professionals have ever seen! We also own a small allotment garden with 15 plots/tenants which are well in demand. The people on the waiting list will be waiting for some considerable time! The annual village gardens competition now hosts a 'best wildlife garden' category, which the HBeeT group sponsors for prizes.
