A part of our public park in East London E6 was allowed by the Council to become an overgrown, swampy, no-go area. The local residents have transformed the area into a pleasant community park, with a pond, known locally as "Beckton Itchycoo Park".. We have formed a group called Beckton Itchycoo Pond Ecology Group (BIPEG) to try to organise community events to improve and maintain the area, socialise and liaise with the Council's Parks Department. The park has varied wildlife (ducks, squirrels, pigeons, other birds, terrapins, fish, bees, butterflies and other insects, occasional fox and heron) and contains a number of timber sculptures created by a local resident. The park is accessible by all; some come to volunteer, others to watch or interact with wildlife, to enjoy the flowerbeds, some come to socialise and others seek solitude. (The park is situated at the rear of the address given below and is accessed off Beckton Corridor.)
