Preventing Conflict on Allotment Sites: Online Forum

Want to keep the peace on your plots? Join Social Farms & Gardens for an online forum dedicated to building a resilient, friendly allotment community that limits conflict.

Tuesday 28th July 1:30-2:30pm on Zoom

Allotments are wonderful spaces for growing food and community, but sharing space can sometimes lead to misunderstandings. This session is all about the "big picture"—how proactive management, clear communication, and robust policies can stop friction from growing into major upset.

What we will explore together:

  • Setting up for success: How clear rules, induction processes, and tenancy agreements prevent confusion.
  • Positive communication: Practical ways to foster a welcoming, open, and respectful site culture.

  • Early intervention: Simple tools for committees to address minor friction before it escalates.

  • Peer sharing: A chance to network and learn from what is working well on other sites.

 This session is ideal for:

  • Allotment committee members

  • Site managers and officers

  • Plot holders interested in site governance

What to expect:

To make sure everyone gets the most out of our time together, please note that this is a preventative strategy session, not a mediation clinic.

This session focuses on preventative structures and general best practices. We are unable to provide individual mediation or resolve specific active disputes.

This forum will be led by the Community Land Advisory Service Wales (CLAS Cymru) team of SF&G
