Cultivating & Supplying Welsh Apples to Primary Schools
As part of the wider Welsh Veg in Schools (WVIS) initiative led by Food Sense Wales, this project establishes a direct supply chain to deliver fresh, Welsh grown apples to primary school children across North Wales. By coordinating local growers with distribution partner Harlech Foodservice, the scheme creates a reliable public procurement route that supports local agricultural economies while providing pupils with high-quality, fresh produce.
As Executive Director of Cultivate and Chair of Bwyd Powys Food—the Sustainable Food Places partnership for Powys—Richard Edwards works at the meeting point of community-led food systems and regional preparedness. He leads work to strengthen supply chains and champion community growing. He also grows apples, pears and plums and has been known to have a passing interest in cider!
