Our annual NI wide networking event for everyone involved in managing allotments and community gardens.
Where: The Lurach Centre, Maghera BT46 5EA
When: Friday 22nd April 2016
This year we are very lucky to be hosted by Mid Ulster Council at their beautiful new walled garden site in Maghera. We will hear about the restoration of the wall and the garden, and the activities the council have been undertaking since.
We will also have a number of workshops in the afternoon, which will also be a chance to meet and share information with others working in your field.
Workshops from :
- Butterfly Conservation Northern Ireland (BCNI) – Helping our Butterflies and Moths
BCNI are a leading environmental charity working to conserve butterflies, moths and the environment. There’s an awful lot that allotment holders and gardeners can do to assist in the conservation effort through recording the species that you see to managing sites sensitively for wildlife. To tell and show you how, the Butterfly Flies officer will deliver a workshop on how to get involved including a demonstration on moth trapping and the fun of wielding a butterfly net! We’ll also get out on site and search for some resident species amongst the beds and hedges. - Danielle Barrios-O'Neill - Crowdfunding for community garden projects
A training on social media and crowdfunding. We hope this will be of use to groups trying to navigate new media and the new funding landscape. Danielle is a digital consultant for multiple industries and a researcher at the University of Ulster specialising in digital engagement. Much of her recent work has been in renewable energy and sustainability, assisting organisations in reaching audiences more effectively to make transitions to greener futures.
