To Market, To Market

Registration is closed for this event
Are you a community group growing fruit or nut trees that has (or will have) lots of fruit in coming seasons? Are you thinking beyond juicing days?

To Market.. To Market.. to buy a fruit leather..

Wednesday April 26th / Dydd Mercher Ebrill 26ain, 19.00 - 20:30

(last half hour for more informal conversations)

STOP PRESS!  Paul Jones, Food Innovation Wales JOINS THE SESSION!

Come along 'to market, to market' ... think about beyond juicing and see who might buy your juicy apples (or pears.  Or apple cider vinegar.  Or cherry fruit leathers.  You get the picture).  Share where you're at with other participants, make some new contacts and hear from:

  • Peter Samsom, Landworker's Alliance - talking about product, product development and routes to market
  • J&R Armitage Apple Wines - about their journey to their new Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Jo da Silva, Open Food Network - how software could be beneficial to get your produce to customers, working with others to sell produce together and how the power of networks can build resilience in communities
  • Lorraine Powell, Farming Connect Horticulture - how Farming Connect Horticulture can help
  • Paul Jones, Food Innovation Wales, Food Technology and new product development (North Wales - Food Technology Centre, Grwp Llandrillo Menai)
  • And .... you, we hope :-)

A 2020 Tyfu Cymru report found almost 60% of the 120 small-scale producers (under 10ha) sold by direct sales, with Wales only producing enough to supply a quarter per head of population their '5-a-day' and suggested small-scale production needs to increase by almost 3,500.   Only 6% of fruit and veg purchased by the public sector in Wales is produced in Wales.  In 2021, UK fruit and veg imports were valued at £10.41bn.

As well as helping to healthily feed Wales, thinking about your produce differently is an opportunity to increase earned income for your group.
