Bogside and Brandywell Initiative is a community and environmental organisation established in Derry 1996. We took on a service level agreement from Apex Housing Association to develop the site and make it work for the community. There are 38 separate allotment plots which are now occupied by budding gardeners of all description. Since taking over the running of the site we have built two more poly tunnels for use by the allotment holders and also provide the Apex Social Supermarket with fresh produce during the summer for free to help those on low incomes. We also provide family fun days for the local community and have built up a strong working relationship with the local primary school where they visit in the spring and summer to learn about the importance of the local environment. We will be planting out our second orchard on national tree planting week with the help of the school children. The site is going from strength to strength.
