Be Safe Be Well delivers 5 mens sheds projects across the Causeway Coast and Glens Area: Limavady, 2 x Coleraine, Foreglen and Portstewart, we have 4 fulltime members of staff. We have 141 members across the sheds. The purpose of the Mens shed is to provide, a safe, inclusive, and creative space for men aged 25 + to reduce their social isolation, improve their mental health and wellbeing and learn skills which will help them to live healthy independent lives. Our members are either retired or long term unemployed due to an injury, learning disability, long term mental health issue or live limiting disease.
We have 3 growing spaces at 3 of our sheds and we are currently developing 2 more. We have run 2 seasons of a 'Sow ,Grow and Eat' project, which is including seed saving this year. Our staff team have recently completed Carbon Literacy Training and we are working towards rolling out a shorter version of this training to our members. We are also in the process of setting up a Repair Cafe at Portstewart Mens Shed. We are enthusiastic growers with varying degrees of knowledge, but we have seen amazing results from our growing projects which was far greater than the veg we harvested.
