We have started the development of a community garden group for all community members to contribute in the continued development of our community garden. Community members would be included right from the start of the project to a design proposal and learn and resource about the different materials and plants needed, grow from seed, separation of seedlings to planting within the community garden. Members would learn about growing plants and vegetables in the different seasons, how to make the garden sustainable and learn about being environmentally friendly, by using things such as water butts, composting waste material, and using throw away items such as plastic tubs to recycle as plant trays. There will also be an allotment space to grow fruit and vegetables, embedding healthier eating. Any surplus plants, fruit and vegetables would be sold to re-invest in the community garden. We have a landscape gardener who will support the project and will help members also learn about making of planters using different materials and making sensory garden objects and help grow people’s knowledge of how plants and vegetables can contribute to sensory development.
