The garden is a plot of unused land at the top end of Chetwynd Road that has been gardened since 2020. The garden is a biodiverse space supporting wildlife and is a mainly planted with vegetables which are harvested and eaten by the community.
The garden emerged during lock-down as an outdoor space for local people to come to and garden, sit and enjoy, with the added well-being benefits that growing your own food can bring. Everyone is welcome! There is a group of regular gardeners who are usually on hand to chat and guide newcomers, but the garden is open to all at all times.
We grow according to a permaculture principles, practicing no dig and companion planting and making our own compost. We are in contact with other local gardens to exchange plants, seeds and resources. We aim to produce no waste and reuse and recycle all materials.
The garden is worked on mainly at the weekends, Sunday morning being the time when there are usually several people working together on our seasonal tasks. We also have Open Days and Working Days when we gather larger groups of people to get a big
job done!
