SF&G Members advise national organisations

This spring London members shared insights with national organisations on 'What would it take for every community to feel that community gardens belong to them?'

Bankside Open Spaces Trust and The Abeng Garden emphasised the importance of developing a whole system that connects people, community organisations and the local and national support organisations that serve them. They spoke about the incredible biodiversity that community gardens create space for, and how the gardens support healing from generational trauma and day-to-day ill health. Another vital point was that community gardens provide space to simply drink tea, relax and be yourself, whether you like gardening or not.

Speakers were paid to share their insights, with thanks to the London City Bridge Foundation funded programme to help senior farm and garden leaders influence beyond their own spaces.

The event was organised by Hubbub, with SF&G and the RHS and chaired by National Park City Trustee Navdeep Deol.

The National Network for Community Gardening includes organisations with a national reach that support community growing activity. For more information on anything in this news item please contact [email protected]
