We delivered events and training for The Acorn Farm project, a £6.5 million green infrastructure partnership project in Northern Ireland.
The project is helping 260 families to grow their own fruit and veg with mentors showing people the basics of food production at home. The wider strategic aim of the project is to build a local food movement that helps to inform and change the food system. It will feature a new urban growing space in St Columb’s Park in Derry/Londonderry.
The Acorn Farm project is led by The Community Foundation Northern Ireland, The Conservation Volunteers, the local authority Derry City and Strabane District Council and University College Cork. Social Farms & Gardens was an associate partner in the project.
About the project
Our contribution to the partnership project involved engaging growing groups to work and learn together. We ran a series of training and events in community gardens and allotments.

- Delivery of biodiversity training with Butterfly Conservation NI
- Regenerative horticulture training delivery
- Group purchase and delivery of over 200 m3 of organic mushroom compost to participants
