Visit to Brussels for the European Federation of City Farms AGM

A shetland pony and an alpaca in front of towerblocks

Beside the hectic highways of Brussels lies Parc Maximillian City Farm. Any city farmer will immediately feel at home amongst the rare breed sheep, (fairly) peaceful donkeys, lively goats and massive tower blocks. The welcome from the volunteers is warm wherever you go, but the peacock was a bit of a surprise.

The city farm movement reaches across Europe. The European Federation of City Farms is for membership organisations like SF&G that that support city farms, community gardens and adventure playgrounds. This April Amber Alferoff from SF&G and trustees Malachy Dolan and Mike Hardman joined our colleagues from Belgium, Norway, The Netherlands and Germany for the European AGM. It was held at Neerhof city farm in which is a picturesque place with space for shirehorses, in a suburb with a disproportionate share of stresses.

It was a fantastic trip, where we cooed over big Belgian bunnies, communicated with colleagues and reinvigorated SF&Gs connection to the international movement. It was great to meet the hardworking staff and volunteers in the network and we look forward to welcoming them all to the UK in for the EFCF AGM in April 2027.

Meanwhile SF&G members can participate in the:
EFCF Youth Exchange 13-19 July 2026 in Brussels, Belgium
EFCF conference 2026. 21-25 October in Den Helder, the Netherlands

You are also invited to join the monthly online training events of the German members https://www.bdja.org/
