Home of the Drift Permaculture Project this unique community garden has beautiful ponds, native woodland, living willow arch pathways, forest gardens with an abundance of fruit, a sensory garden with solar powered fountain and a number of sculptures. Open to all - schools, groups, children, families and volunteers. Year round activities, festivals and events take place. Please see website for dates of activities.

Directions:
Scotswood Natural Community Garden is based in the grounds of the John Marley Centre in Scotswood. The garden can be accessed easily on foot, by bike, and by public transport. There is car parking available at the garden.
Our offices are in a house with yellow shutters in the car park BEHIND the John Marley Centre. This is accessed from Yewcroft Avenue (there are two Yewcroft Avenues, we are off the Yewcroft Avenue that starts opposite Thorntree Drive). If the garden appears locked please ring the bell and someone will let you in.
Buses 30, 31 and 38 stop on Whickham View just outside of the John Marley Centre (the name of the stop is Muscott Grove). From there walk west towards Yewcroft Avenue, turn down Yewcroft Avenue and follow it all the way into the car park behind the John Marley Centre, past the playing fields of Excelsior Academy.
All three bus services can be joined immediately outside Newcastle Central Station. Journey times vary between 20 and 30 minutes and the services run regularly throughout the day.
The Stagecoach number 1 bus to Slatyford also stops close to the garden on Denton Road just past Excelsior Academy. From the bus stop, walk up the hill and turn right up Dorset Road. Follow this path to the top where it joins Yewcroft Avenue, then turn right and follow it into the car park behind the John Marley Centre. The garden is a short walk or cycle from Hadrian's Wall Path (a long distance footpath and national cycle route that follows the route of the Roman Wall). Cycle racks are available at the garden.
By Car: From the A1.1. Turn off the A69/A186 junction (signposted Hexham/City (West))
2. At the roundabout take the city (West) exit onto the West Road (A186) towards Newcastle City Centre.
3. Turn right at the first roundabout onto Denton Road (A191)
4. Turn left at the first roundabout onto Whickham View (B1311)
5. Take first right into Yewcroft Avenue.
6. Take first left into Norland Road.
7. The back entrance to the John Marley Centre is ahead.
8. Our office is the first building on the right through the gates and the garden is behind this.
From Newcastle City Centre.
1. Take the West Road (A186) out of town towards the A1 and Hexham.
2. Turn left at the last roundabout before the A1 onto Denton Burn (A191).
3. Follow from step 4 above.
