Over in Barton Hill you’ll find Aiken Street Community Garden. This garden started around 12 years ago and has had its fair share of stops and starts and is now cared for by a small group of local volunteers. The group has changed over time but some of the original members are still involved.

There is lots of space for vegetable and flower beds, fruit trees and bushes, a huge ornamental cherry and conker tree and a large grass area. Parts have been left to go wild for animals and insects and you’ll find a composting area for all of the grass cuttings and autumn leaves. The garden is evolving slowly with a mission to establish a functional space for growing food, enjoying wildlife, to socialise and relax, for children to play and provide a safe and pleasant outdoor space for the people of Barton Hill and surrounding area. Residents meet regularly on a Saturday morning, just for a chat or to do a bit of gentle gardening. We also have Facebook group - look for Aiken Street Community Garden.
