We began, in 2021, to establish a school farm for the benefit of the wider community - to support child and adult mental health and to provide authentic contexts for pupil and adult learning. We
teach pupils about animal husbandry, habitat stewardship and sustainability. In addition to the farm, we are beginning to act as stewards or trustees of a local woodland. We provide pupils with space to grow food in and around our poly tunnel. We aim to soon begin to grow additional feed for our livestock. We draw on the support of our local community to overcome the challenges of caring for stock during weekends and school holidays. We keep chickens and ducks and goats.
We aim to develop children's understanding of the rural nature of the county in which they live, as though Monmouthshire is rural, the immediate vicinity of the school, and hence many of our pupils' experiences are not. We aim to ignite a passion for food and farming that will better equip them for the local job market and to teach entrepreneurship through the selling of veg and eggs.
