We are a primary school in Flintshire, Ysgol Saltney Ferry. We have established the first school farm at a primary school in North Wales to hold livestock, Fferm Y Ferry. Our pupils across the school access tangible learning experiences on our school farm, garden and through our biodiversity projects. We strive to implement sustainable practices that enable our learners to connect with nature. To date we have seven rescue hens, three pygmy whether's and two lambs. By the summer we will also have two pygmy nannies joining our herd. Over the next year we will be looking to expand our garden and develop an outdoor classroom on the school farm. We were featured in an ITV Wales segment on our school farm, we've a podcast channel on spotify and a busy instagram page @ysgolsaltneyferry. Our school farm has been developed solely through fundraising, donations and resources being up-cycled, there has been no allocation of our school budget to the develop ment of this project! We're happy to give advice to schools on how we have started our journey and the phenomenal impact our school farm has had on pupil well-being, understanding of farming practices and how we can benefit nature.
