The Growing Futures Project supports young people marginalised by mainstream education, helping them build positive, sustainable futures as engaged members of society. In partnership with Links Academy St Albans (a Pupil Referral Unit), the programme targets vulnerable students at risk of entering harmful life cycles.
Each term, eight students participate in a full-time, co-designed curriculum rooted in nature, enterprise, and mentorship. The young people visit our partner farm (Cheyney's) once a week to grow seasonal produce and tackle problems. Weekly visits to the farm broaden their understanding of food systems and offer hands-on learning.
A highlight of each term is “Enterprise Week,” where participants collaborate with professional chefs to prepare meals for family and friends using the food they've grown, hosted at a partner restaurant in Amersham. This not only builds practical skills but fosters pride and community connection.
Monthly workshops and discussions, led by inspirational speakers with lived experience, provide a reflective space for young people to draw actionable lessons from real-life stories. These are followed by 1:1 coaching tailored to their personal growth.
Central to the programme is long-term mentorship. Each participant receives weekly emotional resilience sessions, continuing even after they leave the PRU, offering stable support during their transition into adulthood.
