Community Land Advisory Service (CLAS)

Our Community Land Advisory Service (CLAS) can help your community green space project with land and planning queries.

Find land and planning advice for your community garden, wildlife area, therapeutic garden, orchard, woodland, Community Supported Agriculture project, care farm, play space, memorial garden or playing field.

CLAS helps landowners and community groups work together, making more land available for community growing. The service was originally funded in England, Scotland and Wales. Funding for this service now continues in Wales and Scotland thanks to ongoing support from the Welsh and Scottish Governments. We are currently looking to fund other CLAS services across the UK.

The Community Land Advisory Service can help you to:

  • Get permissions to use land for your nature based or green space project
  • Look for land to start a community growing project or wildlife project
  • Transfer a green space from a public body or local authority to your community

Our flagship service in Wales - CLAS Cymru - has run consistently for over a decade and helped hundreds of community projects with land and planning. The team offers one-to-one guidance and has two support workers based in the north and south of the country.
