The Federation of City Farms and Community Gardens produces a number of publications for the benefit of its members, as well other community groups, people interested in the work of the movement and potential visitors or volunteers.

A full list of our current publications appears below. Some of these are available as free downloads, while others can be ordered direct from the Federation using our Publications order formPublications order form. All prices include post and packing. Please return the form to us at The GreenHouse accompanied by the appropriate payment. We cannot take payments over the telephone.

Chillies & Roses

Working alongside minority ethnic communities is an important element of the community gardens and city farms movement. This publication showcases examples of good practice and identifies innovative ideas that will help all of our members meet the needs of, and engage with, multi-ethnic communities. This lively and very readable publication is packed with useful information, colourful photographs and plenty of case studies, as well as details of other resources.

Community Garden Starter Pack

This pack covers the often complex issues that can arise when setting up or developing a community garden, with advice on topics ranging from legal obligations and fundraising to negotiating for a site and employing staff. Essential reading for anyone setting up a new community garden, and a useful reference for experienced practitioners as well! Revised 2005.

This pack highlights many of the issues covered in the Community Garden Starter Pack as well as additional information specific to keeping farm livestock. Revised 2005.

Child protection guidelines

These guidelines cover recruiting staff and volunteers, dealing with suspicion of abuse, good working practice and where to contact for additional support. The booklet can be used as a checklist to help to ensure your farm or garden is a safe environment for children.

Contaminated Land Guidelines

The North West Food & Health Task Force, in collaboration with the Federation of City Farms & Community Gardens, has produced a booklet to provide advice to any community group, food project or individual in England and Wales who is planning (or is already involved in) food growing activities in areas where an assessment of potential land or soil contamination may be necessary.

This A4 pack, based on sustainable shelter and nomadic life, links the cultural, social and environmental aspects of yurts and those that dwell in them.
