Camau Gwyrdd is a three-year project to help people in Wales take their first steps towards climate action.

About the project

We aim to inspire and empower communities across Wales to take action and live in a more sustainable way. We don't claim to have all the answers and solutions, but we're aiming to help to tick as many of those Earth-friendly boxes as possible!

Our aim is to connect ‘champion’ groups, who are established organisations within the Social Farms & Gardens membership circle, with groups and communities who are working towards creating their pathway towards a sustainable and regenerative future. Many of us experience feelings of powerlessness when faced with the threats of climate change, and likewise, these groups may be climate conscious but may be unsure on where to start on their eco journey.  We aim to facilitate relationships that will pave the way for grassroots, community based green action to mitigate and tackle climate change.

What is a Camau Gwyrdd ‘Champion’?

Our Champion groups are organisations that have an established track record of tackling and investing their time in combating climate change. These groups are on the frontlines of climate action and are ready to inspire those looking to start ticking their climate friendly boxes.

We work with our Champions to identify groups they want to work with and help to develop a strategy to take grassroot action that builds local resilience to face the effects of climate change, and challenge its causes. We will co-design engaging activities and tailor events to encourage individuals and communities to take climate action and build resilience in the face of climate change and biodiversity loss.

Together we will co-create mechanisms to capture learning from these events, this could be in the form of storyboards, short films, etc. We’re open to ideas and creative interpretations here!

We will also build a bank of case studies, guidance and toolkits as we go along. All community growing groups can access these resources to help design their own local response to global climate change.

Do you represent a group looking to enhance your eco-credentials?

Are you interested in setting up a community growing group? Have you identified a green space that could house a wildlife / community garden? Do you work with people who are feeling overwhelmed by the threats of climate change but have no opportunity for taking control the effects this is having on their lives? We are keen to engage with those who have never ventured into the realm of community/climate friendly growing before. Even if you’ve never engaged in any social outdoor activity previously, but think you could make a difference – we'd love to hear from you! Get in touch with us today.

We will connect you with your local Camau Gwyrdd project officer, who will be able to guide you through your climate action journey.

Are you a CSA looking to grow your membership?

Buy Local Champions are community food growing enterprises who will be supported to reach further, promoting local food, making it accessible for all and encouraging involvement through volunteering.

We’ve got a small pot of funding to help run a marketing campaign and accompanying event for eight CSAs in Wales. We’ll be sharing the resources for other CSAs to use as well.
