We’re hosting a Have a Grow Day

Olden Community Garden

Address: Whistler Street (opposite no22)
N5 1NH
Description:

Olden Community Garden is a two-acre oasis of greenery in Islington, north London. Over time, a herbaceous garden, an orchard, a series of vegetable terraces, a meadow , a pond, and an acre of woodland have all emerged from a railway embankment. Under an agreement with Islington Council which owns the land, the volunteer-run Charity – Olden Community Garden – maintains the Garden, with the object to promote a community garden for the benefit of people living or working in Islington. Olden Garden gives local people opportunities for education and recreation, with the aim of increasing involvement in the community and reducing isolation. The garden is an important green space and resource for the local community. It is a haven for biodiversity and wildlife.

Our local primary school uses the woodland for forest school. Our greenhouse and vegetable beds provide a hub for community growing schemes. We have a garden house and an accessible toilet.

Our volunteer gardening sessions and open days run every Tuesday and on the third Saturday in the month, 10am-4pm. There is no need to book, just drop in at any time, and our part-time professional gardener will offer tasks to suit you.

What events and activities do you have planned for the day?:

We will be doing general gardening tasks including watering,
deadheading roses, feeding, sowing next spring's biennials,
pruning, tidying and weeding.

Children can sow a sunflower seed in a pot to take home.

There will be tea and cake for all our helpers!

Will you be open on the day?:

Olden Garden will welcome participants to our 'Have a Grow Day' on Saturday 8th June, 12 noon - 3pm.
