Bryncynon Strategy supports communities in the lower Cynon Valley. There are childrens’ services, Flying Start and a loneliness and isolation project for older people, with befriending and activities. Our food programme includes a weekly hot meal for 130 pensioners. There is a food pantry, fresh food table and fridge and cookery sessions encouraging healthy eating on a budget and reduction of food waste. Volunteering is at the heart of what we do.
We have always developed projects around identified need, thus removing mismatches in expectations. Our Listening Project (3 year Lottery funded) has expanded to include a robust food programme, activities and events and gentle exercises which some of our older people would like to see continued. We have recently been awarded funding from SPF Levelling Up for two posts to work across the Cynon Valley to develop health and wellbeing activities and sustainable, healthy food.
Our current projects include:
- Intergenerational loneliness and isolation programme, befriending, activities, exercise classes, lunch club, hot meals delivery
- Food pantry (50+ people each week), community food table and fridge.
- Warm hub including wrap around support events
- Consortium cost of living and climate crises programme including supporting food pantries in the Cynon Valley, reducing waste, linking with community growing projects.
-Cookery classes for older people and the local school based around available food. We have two dehydrators and a sealing unit for storing food and reducing waste.
We are striving to be a net zero organisation and are developing the land around our building as a community growing space.
